The Maasai Mara National Reserve, in Kenya’s Rift Valley region bordering Tanzania’s Serengeti, is Kenya’s flagship safari destination - resident Big Five wildlife year-round, plus the Great Migration’s wildebeest and zebra herds crossing from the Serengeti between roughly July and October each year.
The reserve is also Maasai community land at its margins, and many camps and conservancies operate alongside, and in partnership with, local Maasai communities - a cultural-tourism dimension alongside the wildlife draw.
